Samsung Washer Keeps Beeping
Also shown as: The pattern is the diagnosis
A beeping washer is not one problem — it is the machine talking, and the translation depends on when it beeps. Samsung's sound design gives you the vocabulary: its US guidance names the routine sounds as the cycle completion chime and the power-off sound, and its icon guide shows a slashed-speaker "Signal Off" indicator for models where those sounds are turned off. Error states announce themselves with sound too — open a top-loader lid under Child Lock and Samsung's manual has an alarm sounding alongside a blinking dC. Start from the pattern, not the power cord.
The decision sequence
- What it means: Match the pattern in the table below before doing anything: a chime at the end is the machine finishing; beeps alongside a stopped cycle mean read the code; continuous beeping with a dead panel points at a stuck button.
- Safe to keep running?: An end-of-cycle chime is normal and needs nothing. Beeping with a stopped cycle or a code: act on the code. Beeping with a burning smell: power off now, full stop.
- The approved checks, in order: Door pattern → close and latch. Code pattern → that code's page. No-code mid-cycle pattern → the balance and drain sequences. End-of-cycle pattern you simply dislike → turn the sound off with Samsung's Alarm Off steps. Non-stop beeping plus an unresponsive panel → the stuck-button checks.
- When to stop: Beeping plus a dead panel after the button checks, beeping plus a smell, or beeping tied to a code that will not clear — service.
Safety first
- Burning smell with any sound pattern: switch off at the mains and stop. Sound is a symptom; smell is a warning.
- Do not hold buttons down at random to silence the machine — on Samsung panels, 3-second holds change settings (Child Lock, sound) rather than muting faults.
Common causes
The cycle completion chime (normal)
Samsung's named routine sound. If the beeping is a melody as the cycle ends, the machine is reporting success, not failure — and it can be switched off on models that support Alarm Off.
A door alarm
Samsung's WA manuals: if the lid is opened while Child Lock is on, an alarm sounds and dC is displayed. Our triage note: a door that is not latched when a cycle should start produces the same start-of-cycle alerting — if the beeping stops when the door is closed firmly, the door was the message.
An error code announcing itself
Codes arrive with sound. Beeping mid-cycle with the machine stopped means: read the display, then work that code — the sound is the doorbell, not the visitor.
A stuck button (bE family)
Continuous beeping with a panel that will not respond is the behaviour of a button being read as permanently pressed. Samsung's jammed-button family — our bE page has the checks.
Balance or drain trouble without a latched code
Repeated mid-cycle alerting with no code can ride along with the machine struggling to balance or drain — the UE and won't-drain sequences are the checks.
Step-by-step checks
- Match the pattern first (table below)End, start, mid-cycle or non-stop — each has a different first move. Do not unplug anything until the pattern has told you which page you are on.
- Door pattern: close and latchIf the beeping comes with the door open or at cycle start, clear the seal, close the door firmly, and check whether Child Lock is involved (the dC + alarm combination is Samsung's documented Child Lock behaviour).
- Code pattern: work the code, not the soundRead the display and open that code's page from the hub. Clearing the fault clears the beeping.
- No-code mid-cycle pattern: balance, then drainRedistribute the load (UE sequence) and confirm the machine drains (won't-drain sequence). Both struggles can alert without latching a code.
- End-of-cycle pattern: turn the sound off properlyOn models that support it, Samsung's method is a button, not a power cut: some models have a dedicated Sound or Alarm Off button; where the setting is a button's secondary function, press and hold it for 3 seconds — on washers the button is most likely Super Speed, Alarm Off, Extra Rinse or Temp. Button sounds stay on, per Samsung; the cycle chime and power-off sound are what switch off. If your manual has no sound instructions, your model does not have the feature.
- Non-stop pattern: the button checksPower off, then work every panel button — Samsung's jammed-button procedure — via our bE page. A button being read as held explains both the beeping and the dead panel.
When to call a technician
Beeping with a panel that stays unresponsive after the button checks, beeping with any burning smell, or beeping locked to a code that survives its own page's reset — book service and tell them the pattern; it is genuine diagnostic information.
One correction worth making while you wait: advice circulating online says to unplug a beeping washer for 6–24 hours. Samsung's own reset for errors without specific troubleshooting is power off for 2–3 minutes (US). A day unplugged fixes nothing that three minutes does not.
Model differences
| When it beeps | What it means | The one check |
|---|---|---|
| At the end of the cycle, a chime or melody | Normal — the cycle completion chime. | Nothing — or turn it off with Alarm Off (step 5). |
| At the start, or with the door/lid open | Door alarm — the door is not latched, or was opened under Child Lock. | Close and latch; see the dC page. |
| Mid-cycle, machine stopped, code showing | The code is the fault; the beep is its announcement. | Open that code's page from the hub. |
| Mid-cycle, no code | Balance or drain struggle. | UE sequence, then won't-drain sequence. |
| Continuously, panel unresponsive | A button read as permanently pressed (bE family). | The button checks on the bE page. |
| With a burning smell, any pattern | Electrical warning, not a sound setting. | Power off at the mains. Service. |
One-page checklist — Keeps beeping
- Pattern matched in the table before touching anything
- Door pattern: door latched, Child Lock considered
- Code pattern: code read and its page worked
- No-code pattern: balance and drain sequences done
- End-of-cycle: Alarm Off set (3-second hold) if the model supports it
- Non-stop: button checks done via the bE page
- Smell at any point: mains off, service

Frequently asked questions
How do I turn off the end-of-cycle sound?
On models that support it: a dedicated Sound or Alarm Off button, or — where sound is a button's secondary function — press and hold that button for 3 seconds; Samsung US says the washer button is most likely Super Speed, Alarm Off, Extra Rinse or Temp. The slashed-speaker Signal Off icon lights when sounds are off. If your manual shows no sound setting, the model does not offer one.
Does turning sounds off mute everything?
No — Samsung is explicit that button sounds remain on. Alarm Off covers the cycle completion chime and the power-off sound.
Should I unplug the washer for a day to stop beeping, as some sites advise?
No. That advice has no Samsung source. Samsung's general reset is power off for 2–3 minutes; a beeping pattern is either a sound setting (Alarm Off), a door state, a code, or a stuck button — none of which a day unplugged changes.
It beeps and the panel does nothing. What is that?
The stuck-button pattern. A button being read as continuously pressed blocks the panel and generates the alerting — work the checks on our bE page.
The beeping came with a dC display and then stopped when I closed the lid. Fault?
No — that is Samsung's documented Child Lock behaviour on top-loaders: lid opened under Child Lock sounds an alarm with dC displayed; closing the lid within 30 seconds ends it (and CL may blink as the cycle pauses). Our CL page explains the full sequence.
