Samsung Washing Machine 4C2 Error

Reviewed November 2026 · Checked against Samsung's official support documentation
4C2
Very hot water is arriving through the cold inlet — the hot and cold supply hoses are reversed.

Also shown as: 4E2 · CE · nF1

4C2 is the washer protecting your clothes. Samsung calls it the hot/cold error: the water arriving from the cold water supply is extremely hot. That almost never means the machine is heating water wrongly — it means the supply hoses are swapped, with cold connected to the hot inlet and hot connected to the cold inlet. The machine has detected hot water where only cold should be.

The reassuring part, straight from Samsung: this code does not indicate that service is needed.

Safety first

Common causes

Supply hoses connected to the wrong inlets

Samsung's stated cause for this code: the hoses are swapped — cold is connected to hot while hot is connected to cold. Typically after installation, a move, or plumbing work.

Coloured hose ends matched to the wrong taps

The mirror-image mistake: the hoses run to the correct inlets on the machine but are attached to the wrong taps at the wall.

Step-by-step checks

  1. Turn off both water tapsClose the hot and cold supplies before touching any connection.
  2. Trace each hose end to endFollow the hose from the cold inlet on the washer back to the tap it is actually attached to, and the same for the hot hose. Do not rely on which hose "looks" right.
  3. Reconnect cold to cold and hot to hotSamsung's fix: connect the cold supply to the cold inlet and the hot supply to the hot inlet — typically, matching blue to blue and red to red.
  4. Turn the taps back on and testRun a cold cycle or rinse and confirm the code is gone and the water entering is genuinely cold.

When to call a technician

Per Samsung, this code does not indicate that service is needed — it is a connection error, not a machine fault.

If the hoses are verifiably correct and 4C2 still appears, the problem is upstream: the tap you believe is cold may be plumbed to hot water. That is a job for a plumber, not a washer technician.

Frequently asked questions

Is 4C2 a machine fault?

No. Samsung states this code does not indicate that service is needed. It means the supply hoses are swapped.

We haven't touched the hoses. How can they be swapped?

The swap can also live at the wall end — after plumbing work, a machine move, or a new installation, a hose can be on the correct inlet but the wrong tap. Trace each hose end to end rather than assuming.

What is the quickest check?

Samsung's own shortcut: match blue to blue and red to red — cold supply to cold inlet, hot supply to hot inlet.

Can 4C2 damage the laundry?

The code exists to stop hot water being used where cold was selected, and the machine halts rather than washing on. Fix the connections and run a cold rinse to confirm.
